Statement on Leadership Transition
Since 2010 Scotty’s Little Soldiers has been dedicated to providing relief from the effects of bereavement to children and young people who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces. Throughout that time our Founder Nikki has been supported by our CEO Stuart Robinson. Today, after over 10 years in the CEO role, we want to share with our supporters, partners, and community, that Stuart has decided to step down from his role in the coming months.
Stuart, Nikki, and the board of Trustees have been working together on long-term succession planning for some time, including establishing the charity’s first Senior Leadership Team 12 months ago, to ensure the charity is well-equipped to be supporting bereaved military families for many years to come.
After 14 years of dedicated service, including 10+ years as CEO, Stuart has decided the time is right for both him personally, and for the charity, to seek his next challenge. This decision comes after careful thought and reflects a natural progression for both Stuart and Scotty’s. To aid with continuity, Stuart has agreed to take a position on the board and to support the new CEO as necessary.
To ensure a smooth and successful transition, Scotty’s is launching a comprehensive recruitment process to find the right successor. This will be a gradual process, allowing time to select a candidate who shares our values and will not only fit within the unique Scotty’s culture, but also be able to move it forward as the charity enters its next phase of development.
A message from Stuart.
“Leaving my role as CEO of Scotty’s is not a decision I’ve made lightly. It has been a privilege to serve as CEO and to work alongside such an incredible team to support bereaved British Forces families. We’ve been on an amazing journey, taking the charity from an idea, to supporting hundreds of bereaved young people every year.
10 years is a long time to serve in any role, and I believe now is the right time for both me and the charity for a change. I’ll never be far away however, and I’m looking forward to helping in whatever capacity is needed as a Trustee in the future.”
Next Steps.
We are actively searching for a new CEO who will work closely with our Founder Nikki to continue Scotty’s mission of supporting bereaved British Forces children and young people. For more information on the role, please visit our recruitment page.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Stuart for his commitment, resilience, and leadership, and look forward to welcoming him to the board.
