Forces Mutual donate £1,950 to help support bereaved Armed Forces children

2021-01-22

The team at not-for-profit financial services organisation, Forces Mutual, has made a donation of £1,950 to help support hundreds of bereaved Armed Forces children up and down the country.

The organisation, which provides financial and welfare support to UK Military personnel and their families, has pledged the money they saved from their cancelled Christmas celebrations last year and donated it to Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a national charity which supports children and young people who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the Armed Forces.

An avid supporter of Scotty’s Little Soldiers, Forces Mutual has helped raise a staggering amount of money for the charity over the last few years, and with the pandemic putting a stop to many of its fundraising events last year, the organisation was still determined to donate what they could.

Sophie Travers, Forces Mutual Regional Manager, said:

“Covid-19 has undoubtedly affected everyone throughout 2020, events had to be cancelled for everything from birthdays to weddings. Like most organisations, our staff usually get together each Christmas to celebrate, but like everyone else, we were unable to do that in December. We therefore decided to donate the money we would have usually used for staff Christmas dinners, in a much more positive way. Scotty’s Little Soldiers is such a wonderful charity, and we feel honoured to have been able to give back in this way.”

Scotty’s Little Soldiers was founded in 2010 by war widow Nikki Scott, a year after her husband, Corporal Lee Scott, was killed in action. Nikki saw the devastating impact on their two young children and wanted to help others in the same situation.

Scotty’s is always there for bereaved British Forces children and young people to remind them they are not alone. This includes offering wellbeing care and providing educational support and grants, respite breaks for families that need to get away, and gifts at extra difficult times of the year. Scotty’s also connects bereaved Forces families with others in the same situation by arranging events and activities to help them to feel part of a supportive community.

Commenting on Forces Mutual’s support, Nikki said:

“The guys at Forces Mutual have always been incredibly supportive of Scotty’s and I can’t thank them enough for this donation. 2020 was certainly a difficult year, especially for our members, so the more funds we’re able to raise, the more we’re able to do for our members, who at such a young age have already gone through so much.”

Like Scotty’s, Forces Mutual is dedicated to supporting people and families within the Armed Forces community. As a company, it is committed to offering a competitive range of insurance, money, and health products to meet the needs of the Armed Forces. Its Military Foundation runs over 80 financial education courses annually for service personnel to help them make more informed decisions when it comes to their finances.

Sophie Travers added:

“At Forces Mutual, we exist to improve the lives of those that lay their lives on the line and those who support them. Improving lives is at the heart of everything we do, and our focus is firmly on the people who protect us.”
