Nikki's April in a Nutshell

2023-05-09

Scotty’s Little Soldiers’ founder, Nikki, shares an update on the events of the past month, including taking our Scotty's Council on a special trip to Sky HQ, acting as head judge at the 2023 Celebrating Forces Families Awards, and taking part in our biggest fundraiser of the year, Scotty’s March.

Scotty's Council vist Sky HQ

It’s always busy here at Scotty’s, but the past month has been something else. I don’t feel like I’ve stopped moving since my last update!

Last month I had the pleasure of attending a two-day event at Sky HQ in London with some members of our Scotty’s Council, who act as the voice of our bereaved military children and young adults. We discussed the projects that Scotty’s are currently developing, and the council even received some professional media training, giving them the skills and confidence to appear on-screen and help raise awareness of the charity.

They had the opportunity to tour the Sky studios, meet Sky Sports and Sky News presenters and gained a real insight into the media and entertainment sector. I love how fully they embraced the experience and they all got stuck into absolutely everything! They even got the chance to try out different roles such as reporters, producers, directors, editors and camera operators, giving them a real taste of what the industry is like. I was blown away by their commitment, dedication and passion to help others and I’m so proud of every one of them!

Celebrating Forces Families Awards

Not long after, myself and my daughter, Brooke, were back in London attending the Celebrating Forces Families Awards. I was honoured to be the head judge this year, but it was no easy task! There were so many incredible and inspiring stories. I love the CFF Awards as their focus is all about recognising and celebrating the resilience of the families within our military community. They even ask for serving personnel to not wear military uniform because they want all the focus to be on the family members. It was an inspiring evening and I felt so proud to represent our families and continue to fly the flag for our bereaved British Forces children and young people.

One last reminder before I sign off - on Saturday 23rd September we're running our ONLY in-person event this year, Scotty's March! There are multiple distances to choose from and you can walk, jog or run it, meaning almost everyone is able to take part. It’s in Chiltern – which means plenty of hills, nature reserves and forests along the way. Me and my daughter, Brooke, are both taking part and I'm actually really looking forward to it. I'm excited to do exercise... what’s happened to me?
