Lee and Mandy Cox
2018 is flying by, with so many fantastic fundraising events taking place, we want to recognise the work of our outstanding supporters.
Every month we will be celebrating our incredible fundraisers and sharing their stories with you.
For October, we’re celebrating the amazing work by avid Scotty’s supporters, Lee and Mandy Cox.
Lee and Mandy have been tirelessly raising funds for Scotty’s since 2017. Their first ever event was a marathon cycle ride from Belgium to Worcester. Led by Lee and organised by Mandy, the pair raised a staggering £7,000!
As a former soldier himself, Lee was keen to give something back and came across Scotty’s Little Soldiers when researching smaller charities to get involved in.
Lee served in the Royal Corps of Signals for 12 years and he still has close ties to the Forces with many of his comrades still serving.
Since becoming Regional Co-ordinators for the Scotty’s Worcester volunteer group, Lee and Mandy have organised an array of fundraising events from awareness stands to supermarket collections, group cricket days and leg waxing events.
In total, the determined duo has raised just under £10,000 and we can’t thank them enough.
So, what’s their secret? We asked Lee what keeps him going and if he has any tips for budding fundraisers:
“It’s the camaraderie! It’s being able to bring everyone together under one great cause. Many of the people I rope in to taking part in fundraising events, like the bike ride, I haven’t seen for 30 years.”
“My advice to anyone looking to fundraise is don’t pester people too much, but also don’t take no for an answer. I would also highly recommend spreading your events out, that way you’re certain to get more support.”
Looking forward to 2020, Lee is already planning to organise another two-day marathon cycle ride -300 miles in two days, watch this space!
Lee and Mandy you are both incredible and we can’t wait to see what else you have in store.
