Lincolnshire girl to walk in aid of children of the fallen
12-year-old Holbeach girl, Megan Reid, will walk ten miles this weekend to raise money for Scotty’s Little Soldiers. Setting off from Sutton Bridge, Megan will walk to King’s Lynn on Saturday 28th July and is hoping to raise an incredible £1,000 for the charity.
The idea to put on her walking shoes was entirely Megan’s after seeing a fundraiser on television and deciding that she wanted to do something for charity. Scotty’s Little Soldiers was the cause Megan selected after she heard about the charity on the radio. The message struck a chord as she has a school friend whose mum is in the Army and also a Godfather in the RAF, which made her think about what would happen to their children should anything unfortunately happen to them.
Mum, Sonia, is incredibly proud of her daughter’s drive and dedication to raising this money which will help children of the fallen commenting: “At first we thought she may forget about the idea after initially deciding she wanted to raise money for a charity – we couldn’t have been more wrong. Credit to Megan, she has been determined and has wholeheartedly taken the challenge on for a fantastic cause. It’s astonishing the amount of money she has raised, which is now over £900. We’re hoping to reach our ambitious target but Megan has worked hard spreading the message to friends and at school to ensure as many people know about the walk as possible.”
Megan will be joined by Sonia, Darren and little sister Issy (9) at different points throughout the walk on what promises to be a very proud day for the family.
Charity founder, Nikki Scott, commented: “On behalf of the Scotty’s Little Soldiers team we want to say a big thank you to Megan who has taken it upon herself to raise this money and head out on a ten mile walk. We love seeing young people who understand what we’re doing here at the charity and we hope Megan’s walk will inspire others to do the same.”
