Month of May Marathon

Month of May Marathon

Scotty’s Little Soldiers launch month of May marathon in honour of our fallen heroes.

This May, children’s Armed Forces charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, is set to get the country moving with the launch of its newest challenge, the Month of May Marathon.

In memory of our fallen heroes, Scotty’s Little Soldiers is asking businesses, associations, clubs, families and groups of friends, to join together to cover 26.2 miles in any way they wish.

From long walks in the park to evening bike rides after work, all money raised will go a long way in helping the charity continue to deliver a high level of support to bereaved Forces children when they need it the most.

Founded by war widow Nikki Scott in 2010, Scotty’s Little Soldiers supports children across the UK who have lost a parent while serving in the Armed Forces. The charity was set up in memory of Nikki’s husband and father to her two children, Corporal Lee Scott, after he was killed in Afghanistan in 2009.

Open to all ages, sizes and fitness abilities, fundraisers can walk, run, skip or jump their way through the Month of May Marathon, breaking up the distance in to smaller miles, or completing the marathon in one go.

After creating a fundraising page on May Marathon, fundraisers can update their completed miles on their profile, and if a fundraiser uses a fitness app, this can be done automatically from their smart phone.

Scotty’s member and 2017 participant, Lily (6) said: “Last year I did the marathon with mummy and managed to raise a massive £720. We walked little bits at a time to make it easier and found lots of new places to play. It was lots of fun helping Scotty’s Little Soldiers raise money, everyone should get their friends involved this year and do it together.”

Charity founder, Nikki Scott, discussed the upcoming fundraising: “The Scotty’s team and I are very much looking forward to launching the Month of May Marathon once again this year. Last year was a great success, and we hope to raise even more this year in honour of our fallen heroes.”

Rewarding everyone who takes part, fundraisers will receive a special certificate of achievement for completing the full marathon miles. Fundraisers will also receive a headband for raising £50, a Month of May Marathon medal for £100 and a running vest or children’s T-shirt for £150.
