The toughest footrace on earth

Toughest Footrace on Earth

Two ex-forces men are ready to conquer the toughest footrace on Earth, in honour of Armed Forces children’s charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

Based in Ashford, Kent and Wickford, Essex, Kevin Godlington (41) and Michael Kay (31) will head to Southern Morocco on April 6thto begin their toughest challenge to date, the Marathon des Sables, in the hope of raising £15,000 for charity.

Founded by war widow Nikki Scott in 2010, Scotty’s Little Soldiers supports children across the UK who have lost a parent while serving in the British Armed Forces. The charity was set up in memory of Nikki’s husband and father to her two children, Corporal Lee Scott, after he was killed in Afghanistan in 2009.

Scotty’s Little Soldiers’ mission is to help children smile again after losing a parent in the British Armed Forces. With a combined military service of 19 years, the pair have seen the direct impact losing a parent in the Armed Forces has on a child, and as a result knew Scotty’s was the right charity for their support.

Pushing themselves to the limit, Kevin and Michael will spend seven days in the Sahara Desert covering over 156 miles in up to 120-degree conditions, carrying all supplies on their backs.

Discussing the upcoming race, Michael Kay said: “Having spent many years in the Armed Forces, Kevin and I have witnessed first-hand the devasting effect losing a parent has on a child within an Armed Forces family. No child should have to go through the loss of a parent alone, so we are determined to conquer Marathon des Sables and raise as much as possible for Scotty’s Little Soldiers.”

Charity founder, Nikki Scott, commented on Marathon des Sables challenge: “For Michael and Kevin to take on the toughest footrace on Earth in support of Scotty’s Little Soldiers is absolutely incredible. Having already raised over £10,000, we are positive they will succeed in reaching their £15,000 target. We are all wishing them both the very best of luck in their race.”
