Beat the winter blues.
For many of us January is the month where we set ourselves goals and challenges for the year ahead. They may be work related or a personal goal you’re hoping to achieve.
At Scotty’s Little Soldiers we see lots of supporters signing up to challenges at this time of the year. They’re looking to conquer a personal challenge but hoping to raise a few pounds for the charity along the way, and as the New Year begins this is the time many of us look to get ourselves back into shape following the festive period.
January is the perfect time to get back into the swing of things but unfortunately for us Brits it’s also one of the coldest and darkest months of the year. We asked Olympic Gold Medal winner Amy Williams for her top tips to beat the winter blues and find that missing motivation.
- Buddy up with friends – help to push and motivate each other. It’s harder to miss a training session when you have a friend waiting for you.
- Wear a hat and gloves – wearing a hat and a pair of gloves whilst out on a winter training run will help keep you warm when you start out and you can easily remove them once you’ve warmed up. Make sure you have the right gear for the weather.
- Write small stepping stone goals – it’s important to have an end target to move towards but when you first start out it can seem so far away. Set yourself some smaller milestones which will help you see the progress you are making along the way.
- Pat yourself on the back when you achieve them – don’t be afraid to recognise your progress (but don’t undo all that great work by celebrating too much!) and many fundraisers choose to share their progress with friends on social media.
Your 2017 Challenge…
If you haven’t set yourself a personal challenge for 2017 now is the time – it will give you something to focus on and work towards. Why not take a look at our fundraising challenges? We have a wide range from 10k runs to overseas treks, sky diving to mud runs and cycling trips to bungee jumps! Many have low or even no minimum fundraising target.
